The Genesis

Andy Rogers planted Upperton in 2005 with 800 trial vines, comprising three varieties initially intended for still wine production: Rondo, an early ripening Pinot Noir known as Pinot Noir Précoce and Chardonnay.

Through chance encounters and numerous vineyard visits it became clear to Andy that he should produce high quality English sparkling wine. Major plantings were undertaken in 2006, 2008 and 2010. There are currently 32,000 vines planted at Upperton.

A Family Afair

In 2007 Andy’s son James became vineyard manager, bringing a new impetus with his passion for integrated vineyard management and sustainability. Andy’s two daughters Heidi and Sarah have recently joined to help our visitors understand and enjoy our wines. It’s a large part of Andy’s dream to have his family work so passionately together – it’s very Upperton.
